POST-WEEK 3 UPDATE
I couldn't help myself. Here are the week 3 rankings. These are predictions, unlike the previous analysis, which measured the importance of a team's wins or losses in the first two weeks. This analysis predicts a Moeller victory Saturday.
1. ST. XAVIER: Every team on St. Xavier's schedule will give them a boatload of Harbin points. Couple that with their win over Colerain in week 1, and St. Xavier should be the week 3 favorite for the #1 seed in Region 4.
2. MOELLER: Moeller matches St. Xavier in the schedule department as Moeller has arguably one of the top 3 schedules in the Region this year. At 10-0, Moeller would be the #1 seed in Region 4. If Moeller would finish 9-1, they would likely still be a #2 or #3 seed, even over a few 9-1 teams due to their strength of schedule.
3. CENTERVILLE: Centerville racked up some huge Harbin points with their victory over Northmont Friday night. The only major threat to a Centerville 10-0 season comes in week 8 at Huber Heights Wayne. If Centerville runs the table, they are looking at a top-4 seed in the Region.
4. COLERAIN: Colerain dominated Tyler Lee Texas Friday night at Crew Stadium. Colerain won't lose the rest of the year, and at 9-1, they are a LOCK for the playoffs. Colerain is technically on the bubble for a home playoff game, but should be able to hold on to the #4 seed unless a team like Glen Este runs the table, or something unforeseen occurs.
5. GLEN ESTE: After Friday's 28-6 win over McNicholas, I see no reason to jump off the bandwagon yet. Since no other team in the FAVC has shined in the non-conference part of the schedule, Glen Este could run the table, and make the playoffs. If Glen Este finishes 10-0, they will challenge Colerain for the #4 seed, and at 9-1, Glen Este could still slide into the #7 or #8 seed.
6. ELDER: Elder has a very difficult schedule coming up with St. Edward, the GCL, and Chatard in the next 5 weeks, but that stretch is also full of Harbin points available for Elder. Elder could still finish at 9-1 and get the #1 seed in the Region as they did in 2002 and 2003. If Elder finishes 7-3, they will be in the playoffs, but at 6-4, they could be on the outside looking in.
7. NORTHMONT: Friday night's loss to Centerville severely hurt Northmont's chances for a home playoff game. Most likely, the winner of the Northmont-Wayne game in week 9 will determine which team makes the playoffs, and which team falls short. Both teams could conceivably be out at 8-2 if Centerville beats Wayne in week 8 and Wayne beats Northmont in week 9.
8. OAK HILLS: Friday night's loss to Elder didn't knock Oak Hills out of playoff contention, as they could still make it in at 8-2 as they did in 1999. However, Oak Hills would need to win out and beat Colerain to have a chance at a home game.
9. WAYNE
10. FAIRFIELD
11. LAKOTA EAST
12. LASALLE
13. LEBANON
14. LAKOTA WEST
15. ANDERSON
